Lost another shipmate this year. Just found out about him. Popp, Marcus, Pravecek, Wang, we remember you and miss you guys. Owen, not many days go by where I don't remember him.

The US Memorial Day is one of a few around the world. It's a day where veterans should take some time to remember the soldiers, sailors, Marines, Coast Guard, and airmen they may have served with and those who served before them who were lost to combat action. We should all remember the service members who are no longer with us and those others who couldn't bear to stay.

From the Traditional Anglican Burial at Sea Service:

"We therefore commit his body to the deep,
to be turned into corruption,
looking for the resurrection of the body
(when the Sea shall give up her dead),
and the life of the world to come,
through our Lord Jesus Christ;
who at his coming shall change our vile body,
that it may be like his glorious body,
according to the mighty working
whereby he is able to subdue all things to himself."

A poem, Lost Harbor by Leslie Nelson Jennings that I found on submarinesailor.com :

There is a port of no return, where ships
May ride at anchor for a little space
And then, some starless night, the cable slips,
Leaving an eddy at the mooring place . . .
Gulls, veer no longer. Sailor, rest your oar.
No tangled wreckage will be washed ashore.
