I'm not sure how I ran across this watch on eBay, but it's style and vintage look caught my eye...my initial concerns were: 1. Who is Marvin? 2. Can this seller be trusted? 3. Where exactly is Cyprus, and can I trust the shipment coming from there? 4. Does it have an in-house movement? I got answers to number 1 and 4 in my thread within this subform, 'does the Marvin brand ring any bells?'. Marvin made some fine watches in the middle of the last century, and has an interesting history. The movement in this watch is an in-house caliber 560 hand-wind. Questions 3 and 4 I was able to get answers for by calling the company 'Local Time', and in so doing, I was actually able to make the store owner an offer, which he excepted! The owner, Andreas, was very friendly, and spoke perfect English; he said he comes over to the East Coast frequently on business. Without further ado, here are the pictures: As you can see, it came very well packaged, and even included all the things you would expect when you buy a watch new, including a leather(faux?) box, polishing cloth, pouch, and strap tool. All in all, a very positive experience with this eBay watch seller, which I think has a brick-and-mortar store in the capital city of Nicosia, Cyprus.
I have to say Doug I'm more than a little jealous...what a fantastic watch! Even though I'm green with envy, congratulations on an incredible find...oh, and dibs!
Hey Doug @dougiedude, found a print ad for a Marvin Hermetic and thought you might be interested...looks very similar to your watch... Thought you might like to have a copy of it. Cheers
Thanks, Ed, always fun to see what the 'marketing' methods were like in the old days... The seller's original listing had an old ad also, but I think you may have seen it before. Here it is again:
