This is my late father's gold Omega. Purchased in 1953 it still works beautifully. I have no idea what type of Omega it is. All original except the strap. It's movement number is shown in the service manual. The fact that it has everything that came with it is amazing. Any information would be gratefully received.
Very nice to have with all the goodies! Is this a solid gold case? I'm wondering if it may be a contract Dennison case? If you take it to a watchmaker, he can open the case back to view the details on the inner side (he can likely also service the movement if necessary).
Doesn't the receipt it say 1943? If so, thats pretty unusual - not sure many Brits were buying solid gold watches during WW 2
It's a calibre 265 produced in 1950 inside. Probably a Dennison case as said above. The watch looks more or less worn out, but I love the accessories! The box and its outer box are super rare, maybe worth more than the watch itself
Yes, such a rare example of the watch with everything possible that came along with it! Tells quite a bit of history, not to mention the OP's dad's... And I bet a new crystal and a professional service with clean up (no polish!), would probably do wonders for the little thing...
The receipt does say '43' but that is only because the shop did not have 1950's receipts! It was definitely bought in 1953 and was the result of my father saving up all his earnings having started as a miner in Wellbeck Colliery in 1948. He fought in Yugoslavia during WW2 on the side of the Royalists and said he always wanted a watch - so this was the result of his hard labour. According to one website £45 then is equivalent to £1156.99 today! It still works and keeps excellent time. Thank you for all the information although I am still unclear as to whether the watch has a name other than the movement type.
Not sure if you've had this done but please get it serviced if you plan on using it. Otherwise it may not keep time at all for much longer.
A quick google shows that Martin Wilkinson Ltd are still open & trading in Mansfield. I love the telephone number on the receipt... "Hello Operator, Mansfield 70 please..."
There should be more info inside. The back can be pried off easily if you're able to do it. The hour and minute hand appear to have been changed and incorrect for the watch, I'm afraid.
