My Grandfathers Watch

I recently was given this watch when my father passed away it belong to my Grandfather who was a WWII vet that passed away when I was 16 I am now 50...I really would appreciate if someone can tell me about this watch so I can tell my son when I pass it on to him.

While I don't recognise the brand, the best way to find out more about the watch is to show pictures of the movement (including diameter) and any other marks inside the case/caseback.

I suspect the bezel and caseback may be screwed on, not snap-on so be sure to check before trying to open it.

If you're not confident, a competent watchmaker can help you.

Thanks all info is helpful. The arms are all blue and I wound it up and it keeps perfect time the picture doesnt do it justice it is very simple yet beautiful and heavy.

It’s great you have it. I have my grandfathers old Waltham pocket watch and a Bulova wrist watch he wore as a young man. I found a few other watches but they were in the back of a draw and the only ones I could revive were the two I mentioned. I think it cost me more to repair them than the value of the watch but I didn’t think twice of doing it. Still my favorite watches. Great you can hand it down. You might want to get the pocket watch serviced just to keep it in good shape as it makes it way through the family

I have inherited my grandfather’s watch as well. He was born in Scotland circa 1875, and emigrated to the USA circa 1897. He died in 1908, 32 years before I was born. This watch is an 18-size, 7-jewel Elgin from circa 1888. This was made before he emigrated, so he must have acquired it second hand, after he emigrated. Sentimental worth only, because 7-jewel Elgins are dime a dozen. It is in a heavy coin silver case with a rose gold locomotive inlaid in the case back. Runs fine, though I never use it.

Some of these family watches, mine have no value either, have more meaning than most of the nicer watches I have.
