Wanted to share this here as its due to this forum that i got an idea to service and preserve this watch otherwise it would have just been lost or thrown away with time. So thank you guys! :)
Two years ago he passed away in my lap as we were taking him to hospital ( He wasnt well for some time and his sugar level suddenly fell dangerously). He was not much of a watch guy but I remember him winding it sometimes and wearing it before going out of the house.
The watch in particular is not any fancy or costly watch. Just an old Indian company by the name of HMT ( Hindustan Machine Tools) which made watches till late 90s I guess, which is now defunct

I’d told watchmaker to not change dial or polish it but looks like he slightly buffed it nevertheless.. and wrote the model name rather poorly on the dial.
However I am ok as at least the dial is still original and polishing is nothinh heavy.
I collected it this evening and have been wearing it since then. Feeling some strange kind of connection to him and emotions right now :)
Here are some pre and post pictures...

Oh by the way, this is my birth year watch (1984) as well.

That came up nicely. Wear it and cherish it. I wish I had my grandfather's watch. It was stolen from my parents house, who passed away the previous Christmas.
The thief was caught sometime later but the watch was long gone. I do not condone violence or vigilantism but I would have loved a few minutes alone in a room with that guy.

Found one of these on Ebay. The printing of the model name on it was very much like that on your watch now.

Model name is “Chetak” that the watch maker poorly wrote on my watch ( visible in post service pic). company that made this watch is called HMT ( still stamped on dial and not altered with). They stopped making mechanical watches in 90s, continued making quartz for some time but are now defunct.

Yeah its the exact same watch. I meant that the original printing of "Chethan" on that watch dial was as heavy and not much better done than the attempt by the fellow who repaired your watch.
I've seen quite a few HMT watches of various models offered on Ebay by Indian sellers, some look very nice.
    Heres the one I mentioned

    and another example

Earlier on a worn away printing on a dial would have irritated me no end , but these days I don't obsess about honest wear.

Very nice, hope you enjoy and cherish fond memories of your grand dad. Mine passed away when I was much younger. Still miss him to this day.
