Hi everyone. I’m new to this and about to buy my first vintage omega. I read a lot about fakes and generally non original watches etc. I was wondering if any of you have any opinions on this watch? Many thanks in advance. Neil

Are you able to gather and post other pictures?

Something very strange happening with this watch. 8 marked as 10, 10 marked as 3 and 11 marked as 2.

Probably a bad photo, so nothing strange going on.

The numerals are all Arabic, not Roman, so what looks like a Roman X (ten) is actually an Arabic 8 with strong X lines and thin top and bottom lines.

Same as all of the other indices.

Also note the ring scratch on center of dial from hands.
Not a good first choice.
Read this thread and learn all about this reference then you can spot a good one. But check in again before buying
Good luck!

Agree, it's a very nice dial (stylistically) but the damage would drive me nuts.

Thanks for all your valuable contributions. I hadn’t realised that circle was a scratch and that would also drive me crazy. I’m pleased I asked this forum before I bought it!

It is a rather beat up dial. What is the asking price? I am sure you could do better for that.

I think the model I would prefer is the Seamaster Cosmic 135.017. The only place I can seem to source one at the moment is Ebay with Japanese sellers or Chrono24. Any experience, good or bad welcomed.

If you like that style of dial have a look at this Certina from the 70s which is similair

And Massena did a modern version of it and calls it Dato Racer. All 3 Cool watches and i wish you good hunting.

On this forum, there is just a subforum that is for established members to post watches for sale. Most members will not have a website, but you can buy with confidence. If you are unsure, you can look through the poster's post history, and ask for references.

There is also a professional seller subforum, but there are fewer watches there that it seems you are looking for. If you're looking to buy from an established shop, another website is your best bet. But if you like that watch from hant26, I'd encourage you to buy directly from him.

Thanks Porteroso. I wasn't aware people sold via this forum. No offence meant but I don't know how I feel about buying a watch in such a way.

No offense taken! It is primarily collector to collector, but it seems to me to be far more reliable than ebay, or many watch sites. The descriptions are accurate, and policed by all the real experts here. It is one of the only places where you can be confident in what exactly you are getting.

The downside is that these are individuals, so they cannot offer a warranty, or take a return if you decide you want something else. But if you will stick around this forum, I bet you will come to trust the sellers. I've now bought 4 watches from forum members, flawless transactions. Love the watches.

Understand your feelings when you’re starting out. But rest assured you are more likely to find a good watch at fair price here on OF than anywhere else.

Yes, I agree with that. The watch I like is a lot cheaper on eBay but I wouldn't consider that. I've also just realised I need to add on 20% thanks to the idiots who brought in Brexit!
