Hi op,
I picked up one exactly like (lume, bracelet, condition etc etc) the first one you posted, even a 4829 serial from a seller in Taiwan, shipped to USA for 2750usd just to give you an idea on pricing.
I found it initially on chrono24 and then checked out the shops references etc and organized direct with them.

Hope that helps mate

I didn't have too, I was a bit worried about that issue but it didn't come up.
Fyi I don't live in the states, our guy who we send parts to is there (Florida) and I sent it to him and he forwarded it to me in st Maarten. He didn't tell me if there was any issues with import, I also didn't get the original shipping package so couldn't say what they put on as value for customs etc
I think it's a bit hit n miss if you get stung with it, same as back home.

The description seems ok - but you can buy a new one for 拢2,800 from a grey dealer http://www.swisswatchesdirect.co.uk...ns_watches_speedmaster_moonwatch_professional

Greetings,
I'm not one of the big guns and I know nothing about Speedmasters -- vintage or modern-- but at least I can see the one in the OP has a very nice and lively yellow patina. If it is otherwise correct and working, I would certainly find it preferable, from a purely esthetic viewpoint, to a new example (which in my admittedly vintage-biased eye looks cold and bland).

I did enquire about the watch asking if any parts have been replaced ,and this is what i got back:
"That would be impossible to say for sure, Omega couldn鈥檛 even tell you that. All watch parts are utterly identical as long as they are made by Omega and for the correct case or movement calibre. The only clues to indicate this are if all the visible parts have an even wear pattern. The bezel looks to be completely original as it has the same patina as the rest of the case and is the correct design for this year. As I said, there is no documented record of what get鈥檚 done to a watch unless it has been owned by the same person all it鈥檚 life who has meticulously kept receipts for all work done. I can鈥檛 see any issues with this watch to indicate it鈥檚 anything other than how it left the factory with 30 years or so of normal wear. To prove so would be impossible certainly from a movement point of view. It鈥檚 also pretty unreasonable not to expect some parts to be replaced on a watch that has been used, especially on wear items, stems, mainsprings etc."

The short answer is that the seller does not say if anything has been replaced.
The rest of it is blabla that's intended to sell.
However you cannot trust an unknown seller on the correctness of a watch, it is something you need to ascertain on your own.

There is a wealth of information on Speedmasters here on the forum. Foremost experts in the world reside here, I'd do a search before attacking a piece you may not know much about. I've been here for a few months and can say the OF community is as experienced as they come. Do your homework, and when you've learned the Ref. enough to know what you'd like to be serious about, ask! The speedy world is intimidating to me personally, I try and walk carefully when discussing the model because of the amount of experts present and the importance of the piece to Omega's history. Best place to learn for sure. The Speedy market is full of frankens, wrong information, and inflated values. Tread lightly until this community has rewarded you with the information you seek my friend. Best of luck in finding the right piece!

Happy Holidays!

Thomas
So, I've done a bit more reading , and at the moment , i am thinking on this watch :
http://www.chrono24.com/omega/vinta...sional-145022-71--stepped-dial--id5395534.htm
The movement seems period but i cannot tell about the rest .
Maybe someone more experienced can give an advice ?
Also the words " barn find" might be a red flag .
And finally , the price should be around 2800-3000 GBP?
Thank you

You must have missed a page 馃槈 . Bezels changed over time and you need to know how to distinguish the correct bezel for the model and year you are looking at. 馃憤
Some examples.

I'm not sure if the Squirrel would be pleased......
To give a bit of context, the Squirrel (aka Calibration Chart) is a known Speedmastertophobe, among other things...

Phew, Glad I finally now know what "dot over ninety" means. A major gap in my watch culture has been filled without any effort馃槜-- a pleasing and unusual outcome.

Thanks much for that OP and @cicindela ! 馃憤

What about Crystal Palace?

Since when are we talking about Terminator 3?

I'm not sure if the Squirrel would be pleased......

Displeased over what.... another sheep wanting a Speedmaster? Or that he thinks he'll get one cheap? 馃槣

Well if you are out cruising metro areas looking for watch dealers that may have Speedmasters, and you see a sign similar to this, move along, nothing to see here.
