Ive been collecting watches for many years...but never ventured into Omega territory until now. My first is a Soccer timer...just in time for a match this weekend. Tell me what you think, especially regarding the condition of the dial. I'll post some better images soon.
I like the nice even patina of the dial, it's a little speckled but it is over 40 years old ! Case looks good from this photo but pretty dirty. Do all the pushers work smooth and function properly? Service history? Look forward to more/better pix. Nice start to your Omega collection, congratulations.
If you will compare with Stefan's http://omegaforums.net/threads/supe...mer-with-tachymeter-145-020-caliber-861.6551/ I feel yours has been polished and rebrushed, the sunburst and brushed facets are not as symmetrical and as pure as his. The mirror edge not as finished. All in all, not the end of the world, it looks good and if was ever a concern, STS and others can refinish the case, not as critical as a refinished dial (forgot the name of the machine that they use) and you can even buy new cases for these still. As I said, a minor deal, get it serviced, make sure there is no moisture problem causing the speckles and get ready to enjoy a nice 861 that should outlast you!
The first comment is spot on...Holy Crap!!! How can you be happy with anything after seeing that? Yes, mine is defiantly polished if thats what they looked like new...at least mine still retains some of the edge
I used Steve N2FHL in New Jersey, Al Archer is in southern Canada (Toronto area, I believe), stefan I believe is in the UK along with STS and they all have stellar reputations and are experienced with this type of work. STS (and maybe the others) has that case brushing machine. I know I'm forgetting some, hopefully, the experts will join us with their opinions, evaluations and recommendations. Don't just go by what I say, I can't handle all that pressure !!
I'm sure replaced and not too long ago, but top quality, genuine Omega. A good sign that this was cared for with some respect. Crystals are service items and a top quality, correct replacement doesn't hurt at all.
