There is a small family jewelers near me that has a small selection of second hand watches (mainly from estate sales). I have previously purchase a Longines and an Oris from them.

I noticed an Seamaster in the window earlier this month and have been debating about getting it, after a little research I decided I would get it to celebrate starting a new job next week. I seemed to be in good condition, I don't think it is a redial, but I would welcome any feedback from more knowledgeable people.

The dial is in its original state and in very nice condition. The crown is a replacement but the correct ones are available.

Thanks, out of interest, what should the crown look like?

Beautiful. That dial is immaculate. I am no expert but think the crown looks a little chunky? Easily replaced though. If the deal is right go for it.

A no date cousin 165.002. Pay no attention to the wrong tension ring.

Like this one but in stainless steel. Not a great photo but the only 3/4 view I have of this type of crown.

So the milling around the edge is different, or is it more subtle than that?

We settled on £450 and a six month guarantee, which I think is good. Will look at getting the crown replaced next year.

The correct crown is a lot narrower and hugs the side of the watch rather than sticking out like the service replacements, which yours is. It's a real Omega crown and a legitimate replacement for its time, but is unsuited to the style of your watch. They weren't bothered about that when they put a new crown on during a service, but that was in the days when vintage Seamasters were regarded as working watches, not collectable items. The correct crown is the same as the one on the Geneve in @kingsrider's post. Edited to add: The price was not bad - the bracelet is worth about a third of that.

That is good to know, he knocked £150.00 off the price as I am starting to become a "regular", 4th second hand watch I've bought from him.

Having lurked for a while, Roberts post has prompted me to respond with a couple of pix of my 156.002 Cal 562 brother to his 166. These are the original fleabay shots, and hopefully the crown close-up will help in identifying the correct one for yours. Mine seems original too, except for the SLN hands which look the part but are modern (and very practical). Hope you get as much pleasure from yours as I've had from mine over the last couple of years, and I'm very jealous of that bracelet...

I hope your new job lasts for quite some time, otherwise you'll be on a slippery slope to collecting vintage watches. 😁

That's a very nice 166.0002 with a Beads (or Grains) of Rice Bracelet.

Here's the info about your watch from the OVDB.
