My first Omega - advice

Hello every body,

I'm a complete beginner in Omega watches. I have decided that I want to by an Omega vintage watch - they are beautiful and I have fallen completely for them, and I can feel that a new interest is creaping in on me.
I have especially fallen for the Constellation Pie Pan model and are looking at the watch in the link below. Is it possible for you to tell me anything about the watch and maybe whether it is at good or bad buy? I have seen it on the internet here in Denmark and is a bit worried that I might get cheated and am therefore considering starting out by buying my first watch in a store. But is it possible to tell me anything based on the pictures below and in the link? The current owner says that it is a cal. 564. The price he asks is about 1.200 Euros. The only papers that he has are the ones below.

Best regards,
Michael

Hi Michael. Welcome to OF. We would need much better photos to help you properly assess the watch, but based on the photos supplied I’m going to speculate that this watch may have a repainted dial (a “redial”) based on the vertical striations visible on the dial. The dial text also looks too thick to me. Redialed watches are not desirable from a collector’s viewpoint as the watch is not in original condition. I could certainly be mistaken. Let’s see what other forum members have to say.

Hi Michael, and welcome to the forum. I agree with gbesq above in that the dial text looks too thick. The case doesn't look too bad.

I would highly, highly, highly recommend you read the Learn How To Fish thread. It is long but well worth it. I wish I had read it before buying my first vintage Omega.

I think it looks good and the price isn't that bad either, the only issue I see is that the top lume pips got darkened, if uneven staining like that bothers you, it might be an issue

With this "T" models, the pips matter, but unless it's a perfect watch it doesn't matter too much either

168.025 is a cosmic watch, so you can't easily open it up

Welcome @Michael17

I too think the watch is probably correct but the dial has staining and the case is slightly polished.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but this reference is a bit of an odd style and so less popular than most Constellations.

1200 is way too much for this watch, save your money for something better - if you want a pie pan for this kind of budget , perhaps try looking at refs 168.004 or 168.010.
Patience and research is the key.

and by cosmic I think @kaplan means it is a front loading unishell case.

best of luck in your hunt.

Thank you Peemacgee and kaplan. Very insightful and helpful! I will definitely drop it now. And I’ll try to be patient although it is difficult 😀
