The IWC Portuguese ref. 3714 was one of my all time favorite watches. It was one of the few pieces that got me interested in watches. The watch is so versatile. You can dress up with or dress down with. Clean and elegant. This will always be IWC's classic and must have. It will be a sad day when I have to trade this watch. But I know it will make its way back into my collection.

You can't go wrong with that model. What's your wrist size? 7 inches?

3714 all time classic. Prices are lower than they have ever been - now is the time to buy!

Cool watch! Congratulations! The one with the gold hands also looks quite cool.
I believe next year during sihh iwc'll change it a bit. Would be unfortunate as it is and has the potential to remain and ubercool watch in a competative price-quality-heritage segment.

Do you think the only change will be an in house chrono movement?

Beautiful timepiece! Is the dial a matte or gloss finish?

    Congratulations, it is lovely.

Can i ask you a question? I consider the Portuguesier one of the best good looking chronograph on the marker, but for £6550, a modified ETA 7750 for me is a little bit too expensive... What do you thing about it?

@Matt87 - I love the IWC Portuguesier and I will own one some day (I can't stop buying vintage), but I think you have a very valid point. It is a lot of money for an ETA.

I'd love to pick up this limited edition Canada 150 version but at over $11k I just cannot justify it, but I'll be jealous of those that do.

    Dear Zuke,

The version that you want is not a normal Portuguese Chronograph... That one is the strappante version (now discontinued!). To be honest with you i would much prefer spend £8/9K in this specific model (With a much more complicated movement) instead £6,5k for the normal chronograph. Of course, when i'm talking of 6,5k for the Portuguese, it is the retail price.

I would not consider it at buying this at msrp. Preowned is the way to go or at least 30% off msrp. It is a heavily modified Eta. With that, you know it its a work horse and can be serviced at any competent watch repair shop. It's a Chrono that doubles as a dress watch.

Great watch. It’s funny because I was just thinking on selling mine. Slightly different as it’s the 41 mm version and it’s the blue dial limited edition Laureus. I tried the newer versions but I find them oversized.

I totally agree that the newer in-house movement version were too large. However, if I had the wrist size, I would have gone for the 7 day or the flyback in-house. When it came down to looks, the ref. 3714 had them beat.

Matt - the Rattrapante is back and available in limited edition runs from IWC, including the Canadian pictured above.

Yes, the Portuguese is one of the few that has distracted me from Omega products. Your white dial version looks so crisp. Mine is the black - but, actually, with this one you get two distinct dials as it's liable to morph into a deep blue in all sorts of light conditions. White, black or blue, this is real elegance in watch design!
