I had this one years ago when they were very inexpensive. It has the white sigma pie pan dial-1971 series maybe. After a while I got bored of the dial so I started looking for a different one but not so actively. A few weeks ago I came across a 14K Connie Pie Pan 2852 1956 and I grabbed it (I posted it here). As I was talking to the seller who owns a booth here in NYC, I mentioned in passing if by chance he has a vintage DJ pie pan dial. He responded with a smile that it seems this is my lucky day cause he just got one a "black" pie pan. I looked at it and it is a mint if not NOS dial but not black but reddish brown (in my eyes). I don't have a shot of my DJ with the white dial but I have a shot of the white dial. So here is my DJ now. Hope you enjoy as much as I do posting this. Thanks.

Congrats, lovely watch. I was about to buy one when another opportunity popped up. Time to start saving again...

Very nice. It reminded me of a used but very clean black dial DJ with full set I bought about fifteen years ago, then flipped after a couple of years for $2500. Seeing yours (which I actually like better) made me go back to my archive: I now wish I had kept it....

That looks awesome, a really nice shade of deep maroon to black to my eyes, but you appear to be missing the hour hand!

I think it's hidden under the minute hand, unless it's just me and that's just a funny looking minute hand! 馃榿

I did a very similar thing with my Airking- I have a silver dialed 1500 OPD and got a silver dialed 14000 Airking. They are kind of redundant and frankly, the sunburst and acrylic of the OPD really popped verses the flatter silver and sapphire of the modern Airking which was just kind of ho-hum.
Instead of just selling the Airking, I decided to hunt down a factory black dial and hand set for it (which is actually rather easy as these watches are commonly redialed with bejeweled dials by jewelry stores to sell as ladies watches so the factory disks get thrown in the parts bin) and have the swap done- beat money I ever spent.

Very nice black dial. Exactly my thoughts as well. Just a dial instead of buying another DJ.

I like it that way-without hour hand (lol). Kidding it is behind the minute hand.

That was my issue- my Airking was full kit, one owner- and recently serviced. If I sold it and bought another- who knows it鈥檚 history (like trading your well maintained car for another in a different color but who knows how that was cared for). Dial and hands cost me $450, and I have the originals in storage if I ever want to sell it- next owner can decide which way they want it.

Really cool! Was thinking about doing the same to mine. It's a Soleil blue dial which is awesome but I find myself preferring the simple dials.

Could you share some daylight shots of the watch so we can all appreciate the color? 馃槈

Too cold here in NYC and nursing a cold. Can't get out. Took a shot by the window. Hopefully some of the great color/sunburst got captured. Because DJ's are just a classic unassuming pieces, can't help but get more ;-) The one on left of 2 tone has a blue dial and on right has a slate/gray dial. Sorry as my phone is so old -I Phone 5馃檨

The purist in me does not like this dial-swapping degeneracy... :whipped:

If you're selling a watch I hope you'll at least tell the buyer that it has had a dial swapped at some point. Maybe even provide the old one. (not for free, of course...) Or swap it back.
