A couple of years ago I got into a discussion with my dad about watches. He got up from the table, went into his bedroom and returned with a box of watches. In the box was my Seiko Sea Horse, his father's Waltham pocket watch, his mother's Lady Hamilton, several of my mom's father's Timexes, his Glycine Airman SST and his government-issued A-17 from the early 50s. After a year of working with a crook out of Mass. on the SST, I found a good, honest watchmaker in Nevada who finally got it working the way it was meant to. Now that the SST was finished, it was time to get the A-17 back in shape. Since there is no weird hacking mechanism, like the SST, on the A-17, I took it to my local watchmaker. I got the call yesterday that it was ready. Oddly enough, after 60 years, all it needed was a cleaning and a crystal. Here's the before And the after with a period (I hope) strap
That's great! You can really cherish that one... I think all my dad admits to still owning are a few quartz that stopped and he never took to change the battery...; but I'd be surprised if there isn't something from his Air Force days of the '50s and early '60s... I guess it might behoove me to ask!
Great looking watch. I presume you've posted the information in another thread regarding your fathers military history?
