For the past couple of years I have coveted the Constellation and decided that upon finishing my Masters degree I would make one my graduation gift to myself. I've been watching them on eBay for awhile now and had decided that I should budget $1200 for a decent example.I saw one for a price that I felt I couldn't pass up ($810) and pulled the trigger. I probably shouldn't have bought this one as after following the forum pretty closely and learning what I should have been looking for. The case back has a couple of light scratches and the case has some pretty heavy scratches under the bezel between the lugs. I have decided that it is a redial after reading some of the threads on here and examining mine more critically (the star is not perfectly centered on the cross hair and the minute marks look a little off) and it definitely has had rotor wear at some point. The seller did state that it had had a complete service and I believe that it likely did as the winding mechanism works perfectly, which I assume if it was still rubbing it wouldn't, and it keeps excellent time, -22 sec. per week vs. Naval Observatory Time . After wearing it daily for the past three weeks or so I can say that I am overall happy with it as I do plan to continue wearing it as my daily watch. I have learned my lesson though and will consult the forum before purchasing my next Omega. I apologize for my poor photos, I haven't gotten the hang of close up watch photographer yet.
Nice grab. Hard to tell from the photo if it's a redial, but it could be original. What makes you think it is a redial? If you can post a sharper photo of the dial that might help other members chime in.
The dial has been refinished - the original black dial models go for 2-3x the price you paid. The case has also been polished quite heavily and the buckle is not made by omega. This is how an original dial looks like:
I agree on it being a redial - but if you feel great wearing it, who's to complain?? Looking forward to seeing what the future will bring you
The star doesn't look properly centered to me and the minute marks look like they might slightly off. I may have just become paranoid after reading so many posts about redials. This photo should be better.
Help me out here gentlemen. OPs dial seems to pass the MOY test. Markers look OK to me. Star is tiny bit off. No "t", but no lume. What are the giveaways here?
If seller didn't disclose it was a redial, you can probably get your money back. I just sold one today in original condition, infinetly more disirable for $500 on ebay today... Geez people are hard to understand..
It did say restored, so that is on me. Live and learn, I'll just wear the heck out of it and eventually get a better example for my collection.
MSNwatch, how can you tell the buckle is incorrect; after reading the buckle thread I actually thought it was legit.
Well that is a great attitude, lots If people like these because they look New and are shiny, you could probably get most of it back by selling on ebay and get one you really want. That's the newbie tax we all pay sooner or later.
Oh, I love the watch, I just learned that I over paid for it. It's still a Constellation, still keeps dead accurate time, and looks great on my wrist. The one thing I would change about it would be the scratches on the case under the bezel. If anything knowing that it is not valuable will only encourage me to wear it all the more.
Congratulations on your new watch and welcome to the Connie-club Black dials are notorious for being redone so it's not surprising that yours has been Enjoy wearing it all the same -valuable or not that's what they're meant for if you are looking to buy another in the future post it up here first for comments
