On this very day, October 1st, 25 years ago, I bought my first Omega Speedmaster watch. I was a student at the time and obsessed with watches, specifically, Omega Speedmasters. Lovely story. Thanks for sharing. Wish I'd discovered the Speedy world somewhat sooner, but better late than never 😀

I finished university with a 15 pound overdraft (and that was due to a bank error or I wouldn't have had the money). I had to hitchhike home as I didn't have the bus fare.

I was so poor ..... I had to get a job!

A great story showing how the sheer beauty of the watch design, the reliability, enduring class, and functionality has inspired so many of us to this brand. Thanks for sharing.

Remember buying my "25 years Apollo 11" Omega Speedmaster for the equivalent of CHF 1100 in July 1994.
It ran until June 2016 as a daily beater before it needed a service, as it couldn't be longer winded, in June 2016... almost 22 years without service!

A colleague had a 1861 from 1997, serviced in 2016... that was 19 years without a service.
Same issue, one day he couldn't wind the Speedmaster any longer. Service at Omega with parts given back...
Maybe we should make a topic on the "service record times" of the Speedmaster... 861 movements look the best thus far...
