Newbie questions. Thanks in advance. These are bad photos on my 1970 Speedmaster. Serial number is 305*****. It has, what appears to be a DON bezel. Would this be correct for that serial number? I thought DON's were specific to earlier examples. Thanks.
Thanks. I figured the hands weren't correct based on their brightness. The dial isn't stepped, but I don't think it necessarily would have been ( could be wrong there). It's got a plain case back, and a new production 1171 bracelet.
Hmm you've got an issue there. The dial should be stepped on a -69. I don't even think that's an early 70's done dial, more like 80's-90's. The hands aren't just newer, they're incorrect. I think off a mk3/4.
Im not entirely sure whats wrong/right with your watch, but dial and hands are definitely incorrect. Hands are thicker more like the MK2, dial should be stepped. I believe the rest of the watch could be correct. You should be able to source the dial/hand combination for around $1k
Yes, DON is correct up to around 31x, when they were mixed. The hands are fort a MkII I think, and the dial is from the 90s, for a 3590.50 or early 3570.50
In fact, if you swapped this dial into your other Speedmaster from the other thread, that one would be 100% correct. Finding a stepped dial for this one will be costly but can be done, I think there's one on eBay now
Thanks very much. In looking at other '70 Speedmaster's, I can really see the difference in the hand style and the "Speedmaster" font. I'll definitely try and source the correct dial and hands. Thanks for the help.
Hi @amphib44, I just strolled around on ebay and saw this, I remembered someone on here was looking for one, Cheers, Max http://m.ebay.de/itm/1969-Vintage-o...3A77c6952315b0a5e0a7497509fffaf4f5%7Ciid%3A25Purchases made through these links may earn this site a commission from the eBay Partner Network
