Gotta say it was a long wait but very happy. Movement service, new crown and crystal, water proof test, polish. 2 year warranty. Impressed with the polish on the bracelet. It was pretty banged up.
Love the all black GMT. A true classic. They made a huge mistake to not bring an all-black version into the new movement line up.
Crystal was chipped and the bracelet was pretty scratched. Mostly I took it in because it was used pretty hard and overdue for service.
Lovely, this reference as really grown on me, modern take on a classic, unlike the latest versions which I think look a bit plastic.
Does Rolex give you the option to go for brushed middle links when servicing the watch, or not? IMO it looks better fully brushed on a tool watch.
The service was pretty much by the book. I was asked if I wanted a new crystal and went for it. I agree the shiny links are scratch magnets. I suspect that modifications from new, would be off the table.
I wouldn't hesitate to have the watch polished at every service. The lugs are thick enough and will still look great after numerous polishes if done properly. I feel that polishing is only a problem on 5 digit references and older Rolexes because they had just the right amount of meat on the lugs when new.
Yeah I guess you are right. Rolex wanting to restore the watch to as good as new condition each service. Bummer they don’t offer fully brushed bracelets for the GMTs. Great watches in all other aspects. Hopefully it’s a phase that will pass with time.
I have a 6 digit explorer and I wouldn’t polish it and didn’t on last service because I prefer the worn look. The 904 steel looks pretty good with wear anyway. It doesn’t seem to dent as easily as 316.
