Thanks Miki; you're a gentleman and a scholar. I very much appreciate the reference particularly as I am still the NKOB here.

From my own great experience, I'm sure you will find Kringkily another gentleman. Good luck, Miki

I can't thank you enough Miki; Kringkily and I are off to a good Start and I may be buying more than one watch from him.

so respects to you sir. And one day, Godfather style, you will need to ask me for a favor; I owe you!

All the best Miki.

Actually the watch in question has a blue circle on the dial and is quite beautiful

Wow very interesting! And thanks for sharing the pics! I didn't know of the existence of this variety! That number 3 (a bit more reserved) seems the most elegant to my taste.

The only set I was familiar with is the set which includes the yellow gold witj cloisonné dial.

But on the whole, they are real beauties!

This one is mine. In stainless steel. 35 mm and oozing of old world charm. This one is dear to my heart!

What is the background of this one? It has the dial of the Japanese set platinum model, but different case, hands and crown. Did you put together this one yourself?

Initially I too thought it was the platinum version. Obviously it's not. Maybe someone other than Mike bought one of these dials and made their own. Regardless, it's pretty cool to have one in stainless to wear as an "everyday dress-up beater".

Oh this one is actually the real deal! It is a genuine, all original steel Omega made in 1954 and still looking quite young for her age!

Can you tell us the model number and caliber? I have one of these dials and I am looking for a case to mate it to.

That's the 30t2rg movement in a dress watch that has a 35mm case. Most of the cases that housed the movement were around 33mm to 33.5mm. i am not aware of the dimensions of the dial but can try to give you an approximate measurement once I get home later today so you can compare with your dial.

Of course it would be much better if you could locate an original. These watches are stunning in person and the fact that they are original and represent a piece of history makes for a really charismatic watch. Mine was from Somlo Antiques in London England, a highly respectable brick and mortar store specializing in Vintage Omegas. Worth looking up. I you call them, ask for Clive or Anthony. I trust them both; they are professional and courteous and have a lot of attention for detail!

I have been to Somlo, and I am sorry to say I have very little respect for them. They have a dubious reputation with many collectors. They sell many refinished dials claiming that they are original and they don't like it when you asked informed questions about the watches The dial on you watch above is the same as the ones on the homage. The watch itself is no doubt an original 30t2rg Chronometre, but they changed out the dial or refinished it . That may be preferable if the original was in bad shape, so I am not disparaging your watch as it is certainly a lovely piece.

These dials are still available on ebay from watchco.

That dial is a modern omega dial transplanted in a vintage omega case. And I for one would never buy a piece from Somlo - the few pieces that I find interesting are vastly overpriced

i know how much trouble guys like them can get into with collectors once they deal with refinished dials and it does worry me too. but to be fair to them, and I last visited them about a month ago.. They have been straight with me on which dials are refinished and which ones aren't from the watches I asked about. The dial you showed me looks very similar to mine however mine has the unmistakeable patina of the age.

There is no question your dial is not vintage - it is a modern replacement. Even the hour and minute hands are totally wrong for this watch - whether it is the vintage or modern version. If Somlo represented this is a genuine original vintage dial then at best they are ignorant at worst they are deceptive.

Thanks for all the advice I received. I'll look more into it. There was no confusion; I asked and they answered that the dial was untouched. i can see even patina on the dial so had no reason to doubt further. But really, I do appreciate the comments and I will have to research this more!
