I know there have been a handful of custom Zenith El Primero models this year, and Bamford is customizing a few models as well. But I’m actually considering this one, like the dial and the sandblasted titanium case. Thoughts? Someone talk me out of it?

Love the sandblasting case.

Beside that, I don’t like two different blue (dial and hand), don’t like the white date disc breaking the look of the dial, don’t like the simplicity of the hour markers ...

if you like it, go for it. It has its own personality. And much different form any other zenith.

These are $70 grand?
I like the dial being less cluttered than many chronos, but the date wheel is a glaring oversite, IMO.

Man what a tough blue color...

If this is really 70k how about go buy an a3818, a3817, and an a386 instead?

My guess is resale on this will be non-existant...

Agreed, way more bang for your buck buying one of these aforementioned vintage pieces. The Bamford is definitely cool tho!

What's with the 70K??? From Mr Porter website:
"
USD8600 pre-order:
Limited to just 50 pieces, this El Primero Revival A384 'Edge of Space' reference pays homage to Zenith's El Primero calibre on its 50th birthday. Housed in the 1969 original titanium 37mm case with a handsome blue dial, it's powered by a precise 13 1/4''' automatic chronograph movement and offers a 50-hour power reserve. The anti-reflective domed sapphire glass crystal will ensure you can tell the time in bright sunlight, while the exhibition case back allows you to appreciate the oscillating weight and Côtes de Genève engravings within. It's individually numbered to denote its exclusivity. We offer a two-year warranty for all working parts and manufacturing faults for luxury watches.
"

It's dark, matte and stealthy and, if you want that look, imho it works and you should go for it. I agree with @michael22 the white date window isn't great but that's not a showstopper for me. A contrast orange chrono hand would be interesting but then it wouldn't be a stealthy edge-of-space watch any more. My only concern is what the Ti case, pushers and crown will end up looking like over time with wear and knocks. The sandblasted surface might get polished and look like crap.

ha!
ok forget my previous advice. you can't buy an a3818 for 8600

i would still buy a great a384 or a385 over this any day of the week and twice on sundays. .but if it floats your boat go for it!

Take it for what it is - it's a modern interpretation of a classic Zenith reference and looks pretty good. For a modern issue, this is great
