·Seems as though the great unwashed are gravitating more and more to mechanical (automatic wind) watches, without having a clue that they are not as idiot proof as modern quartz watches. In the past while, I have had two self winders come to me with the complaint that they don’t keep time, and stop quite often. The one guy told me he only wears his Seiko automatic about 3 hours a day, and winds the crown 3 or 4 times at night, to prevent the watch from running down! He also told me that one day, his calendar didn’t change. I told him that was because he had re-set his watch 12 hours out so the calendar changed at noon! He told me I didn’t know what I was taking about. I also told him that by test, his watch ran 56 hours on a full wind. He told me I didn’t know what I was talking about!
Another guy only wears his watch a few hours each day, and puts it on a watch winder when not wearing it. Problem! His watch only winds automatically if it is turning clockwise. The watch has a full 360° rotor, but it only winds one way! I hope his watch winder can be programmed!
Is this a problem of retailers not advising these people? Does the owner’s manual not advise them? Do they read tho owner’s manual? Or are people clueless?
