Thanks a lot. Confirms why the 2915 to early 2998 references (-1 and -2) are difficult to locate. Production numbers quite small.

Rough estimation for 2915: 3300-4200 (that´s in the book) and for 2998-1 + 2998-2: around 2000 (that´s not in the book).

Pay attention that production figures (25800) and dates (up to 1960) concerns movement only, which means that from 1941 to 1960, 25800 movements were made, not 25800 watches asembled.

Does that figure include the year 1960? Because that's when the 2998-1 and -2 serials come from.
And it comes to about 1,000 or so per model from the 2915-1 to 2998-2 - that's been my observation in the marketplace as well in terms of these watches being sold. One can of course only speculate how many of these early speedmasters remain in reasonable shape today.

that includes 1960, but again this date is that of movement production. the entire range corresponding to 2998-1 and -2 have their movements built in 1959 already.

the real question, especially for 2915s, is "what´s the proportion of today's 2915 fitted with the right movement number and not that of a Seamaster from the same age".
For the moment, it's impossible to state, information is missing. There has been a 2915 sold by a well-known auctioneer with a s/n dating it in 1956...one year before the 2915 went on the market.

that's one of the reasons why the production of early speedmasdters is difficult to estimate.

Fully agree. I have seen a recently sold 2915-1 with a 16m serial and not sure if that was a correct match.

hm, my observation is, that the 2998's show up pretty much more often in the open market than the 2915's. When have we seen the last 2915-2 for example in ebay as a public trading place where people tend to sell, when they find something from grandpa, something that has not been in collectors hand till then? I think it is years ago.

One sold just last year in a brick and mortar auction. And a -1 just changed hands privately a few weeks ago. They are out there just not via eBay.

you are right, it seems that those high-value 2915s are most often traded privately. They are not as much common as Paul Newmans for example :D.

Received my book today. It is an encyclopedic work and a must have reference for the speedmaster fan. My only yearning is for more photos of multiple examples of early speedmasters.

Considering the source, that blurb is probably equal to 300 sales. I'd stop press to put it on the flyleaf.

Spent a little bit too much money on (watch)books lately but this seems to be a very good deal.

Far as the Speedmaster is concerned, don't think that's possible, right? ;)

Dear DLT222, please ask publisher Watchprint, who carries out shipping. But I can say there's a lot of orders and shipping is according to chronology.
    cheers!

What is order/sales count so far? Curious to see how many serious speedmaster enthusiasts there are!
