Moonwatch newbie question

Hi all
I’m the proud owner of brand new Moonwatch having lusted after one for 20 odd years. My wife says she wished I looked at her the same way as I look at my watch :- )

A couple of daft newbie questions please…

- I love the way the it looks with chrono hand sweeping round and have had it going like this for most of last day. Is that alright or will it risk anything if on a lot of the time? The AD said it would be fine but would just the power more quickly?

- how do folks generally wear theirs?

thanks guys…

Congratulations on your Moonwatch!
Enjoy it and don't worry about letting the chrono run, I like to do that ,too.

Congrats! It’s a great watch. Running the chrono all the time will cause more wear and tear on the parts involved than not running it. But, it’s not anything to worry about with this particular watch. Go ahead and run it if you want. Sometimes I’ll just stop mine around 37 seconds so I can clearly see the logo.

It doesn’t actually use more power to run the chrono. If you let the watch wind down far enough it will probably stop a bit sooner than otherwise (effectively shortening the overall power reserve number). This is because running the chrono requires a bit more torque from the mainspring. Once it winds down far enough the mainspring doesn’t have enough torque to run both. Once again, not something you’ll ever have to worry about.

When I had one, I liked to wear it on Nato to answer your second question. The bracelet never left the box.

The great thing about speedmasters they look good one almost everything: nato, leather, bracelet. I change straps/bracelets often.

Enjoy your beautiful watch!

I have my 3861 since last March and never really liked the bracelet. Have been wearing it on various different straps (leather, seat belt, nato...). But this summer I tried the bracelet and now i like it very much, been using it in the last two weeks.

I often leave the chrono running, or stopped somewhere around the dial, so I can see the logo.

Sometimes I leave it reset, sometimes I let it run, sometimes I use it as a date function, sometimes I actually time things with it! You are fine doing as you wish. Enjoy!

If that’s how you like to have it then go for it, it’s your watch and congratulations on getting a beauty!

Hold the presses. I’m assuming you use the minute counter to indicate the date? That’s genius!

Congratulations.

I never considered letting the chrono hand run all day, but now I'm going to try it. Like @Aroxx I often park it at 22 or 38 so I can see the logo and subdials clearly.

I love the look of Speedy on leather.

Also, you can use the chrono function to indicate numbers of sets completed while working out…one second equals one set…two seconds equals two sets, etc. I tend to do a bunch of sets and the chrono function helps me keep track of how many sets I’ve done. Also, if I’m keeping track of how long I’ve been working out, I’ll wear another Speedmaster on the other wrist to time that evolution…HOWEVER…wearing two Speedmasters to the gym can cause some meatheads to want to kick sand in your face. Luckily, there’s no sand at the gym I go to. 😁

My mind is blown. This has opened up a whole new world of possibilities for me. I really like having a date on my watch and miss that with the Speedmaster. I’m going to give it a whirl.

@Mad Dog It sounds like your pushers and chrono mechanism get as much of a workout as you do. Maybe this is why you need 4 Speedmasters. 😜

Yeppers…the pushers and chrono definitely get a workout…that’s why I only do that stuff with my 1861 and/or 3861 and not my vintage 321 and/or vintage 861.

All this time I thought you used the Chrono for timing Hooters orders!

This watch is becoming a problem for Omega. I would make sure the chrono hand is set at the 12 mark. Specific at the 12 mark. Many are off at purchase.

Then, test the watch. My is brand new (1863 sapphire sandwich) and is 1.5 minutes fast a day. Clown show.

Keep receipt. Sorry to be a downer but Omega has a production issue currently. Calling the AD about my lemon today when they wake up.

Given the 3861 has been out for a couple years then your brand new 1861 is actually a good few years old and must have been sitting in your AD’s safe. Your warranty should be valid from date of sale I believe? So you should be able to contact your AD or Omega directly and get your watch in to them for them to have a look at and fix for you.
