Hello everyone. I recently had my Speedmaster broad arrow moonphase 3575.20, the one with the white gold bezel and blued hands and indices, serviced by my watchmaker due to a broken mainspring. Today I got the watch back, but I noticed that when I shake it, it feels and sounds like something inside is moving too much, as if there is too much space between the movement and case, and the movement is bouncing around a little. I tried the same thing with my 3590.50 and 3575.50 Speedies, and although there is some noise, it definitely feels like everything in the right place. Has anyone experienced this issue before? Archer, if you could weigh in, that would be awesome. Thank you,
Well, I haven't had the chance to talk to him face to face yet, but he thinks it may just be the balance wheel. I had the repaired watch shipped to me via mail. But I will definitely have him check it out the next time I see him.
Other than the noise, the watch is functioning fine. Maybe it is just the balance wheel. I just didn't know that I would feel this much movement.
I think you misheard him .You won't hear the balance wheel "bouncing around" as if there is "too much space between movement and case" - it's the most delicate part of your movement. Noises are very difficult to quantify without the watch in hand but if you think something is loose, I'd get it back to your watchmaker as soon as you can. Best regards, Chris
Otis Redding can teach you how to Shake! (The second song is about my warped relationship with Speedmasters.) BTW, I vote for the dust cover being left out.
I have a strong suspicion that there is a slight gap between the dust cover and the exterior case( due to the cover getting compressed inward), which is resulting in the strange sound. It is probably a quick fix by bending the cover outward slightly, so that it is flush to the exterior case.
