I was at my local thrift store and got this in a bag of watches. Was wondering if anyone had some information on it and or a possible website that I could go to and investigate for my own thirst of knowledge? Any help is greatly appreciated.
The movement (mechanism) is an A Schild (maker) caliber (model #) 1187 or 1194. This movement was produced over about a 20 year period, and millions of them were made. You’ll find this movement behind dials with countless unidentifiable brand names. It was a real workhorse of a movement, very reliable, easily repairable, but undistinguished. The case is gold plated over brass, and most of the plating has worn off. It is hard to judge the condition of the dial because of the heavily worn, dull, and discoloured crystal. The case lugs are heavily worn, and you may have difficulty keeping a bracelet or strap on it. The Montrose name was used by a number of different companies. There is a list of those companies on Mikrolisk, here: In short, anything you might do to try to improve the watch would cost more than the value of the watch save your money. View attachment 1190733
