Good afternoon. Hopefully I'm not breaking any rules with this being my first post. Have lurked around this forum quite a bit and got some good information. I've had this Montrose 21 jewel alarm for a while and I absolutely love it. It's clean and runs superbly. The alarm works as intended and dial is beautiful. Recently tried to get some more information on the watch, and I have found very little. It's my understanding that Gruen/Schild used the Montrose name in the 50s, so I'm assuming one of them is the manufacturer. The movement and dial both stamped Swiss made and the movement has Montrose on the ratchet with and a fleur di lis on what I assume is copper colored brass. The internet A.I. is telling me this is a Venus 188 movement, but I believe that is for a chromo and would not be used in an alarm. Also, I don't see the resemblance. Any information that anybody could provide would be extremely helpful. Thanks in advance.

More research, and believe I've landed on the A. Schild AS 1475 and the watch bears a striking resemblance to a Benrus wrist alarm.

Ah, the "AI" delusion. Yes, common AS alarm movement. Very reliable and used by many watch companies of the time. Note the location of the divot. Post on the other side where the hammer strikes.

Yes indeed. I remember when I first got the watch wondering how someone dented the case back like that. Eventually figured it out.

Definite Schild/Gruen connections there.

Here's a list of Montrose brands from Mikrolisk.

First off, welcome! Secondly, don't use AI. From the forums I frequent I've found tha AI is excellent at misidentifying watches, guns, and cars.

That's a nice little Montrose you have there. Is it your first vintage piece?

Not my first vintage piece, I’ve been collecting for a while. This is my first alarm. I bought it at an estate sale, and put it in with some projects. Just recently discovered it again.
