Hi,
Would like to buy a modern Speedy to compliment my Seamaster 300. I am considering the 57 or Racing.
Is the 57 better or is the Racing better. I would choose the Racing because it's automatic, would the movements be equivalent

All down to what you like. The movements are equivalent in the sense that they’re both excellent master chronometers. That said, hardcore Speedmaster enthusiasts might prefer the tradition of a manual wind movement, a la the Moonwatch. Also, the racing watch is quite large at over 44mm, where the 57 is more traditionally sized at about 40, though I think the lug to lug distance is about the same, isn’t it?

I’m not a chronograph guy, but if I were, and if I were deciding between these two, I’d go for the 57, which has more Speedy “DNA,” in my opinion. If you really like the racing one, maybe see if you can get one if the new ones with the spirate regulator.

Can’t go wrong—but we can’t really give much input either. It’s a matter of taste.
