Overpriced pieces of junk? You sully the Omega name with your traitorous invective. Very well, sir. As this is a matter of honor, it’s pistols at dawn.

I can hear Jon Lovitz in your avatar saying that. 😁

Yes - one of the most popular and best-selling watches is a piece of junk...

Sure, sure. Thanks for the vital info...

I have absolutely no interest in the majority of modern watches and that’s simple because I think they lack in the rudimentary principles of classic and timeless design. As a designer myself, I was taught to remove superfluous detail to create the best aesthetic design. Modern watches most often do the opposite. I’m hardly the average consumer. So I think ultimately it all comes down to taste - and the world is made up of all shapes and sizes

I am in no way, shape or form a designer, or even a reliably tasteful consumer, but I have found myself increasingly drawn to watch designs that date from an earlier era. Picked up a Marinemaster 300 recently and, thick and squat as it can seem, it has a certain strong function-led design that I'm really digging, as with my older Doxas and Speedmaster and late 50s SM De Ville. I think the 2018 SMP Diver (for example) is a terrific watch and a (relatively) strong value, but it doesn't seem somehow as purposeful and frill-free. To me.

But yeah. taste is taste.

You need to redesign the Bulova Precisionist line. Bunch of ugly crap with a great movement.

You bring up something interesting.

Most cars today are interchageable, what I call "bubble cars". I have to be very careful to check the license plate on the black bubble car to make sure I'm trying to get into the right one!

When Ford did their retro Mustang, it was really really good.

Then they started screwing with it. Bit by bit, they kept removing things that were unique about it. Today? Amorphous crap yet again.

The Camaro is sort-of retro but it's not.

Meh.

I don't think they are "junk", but it can be said that, to an extent, many mechanical watches from the quartz crisis to the swatch resurrection are a bit subpar compared to what it was done before and after.

Overpriced I might agree with that, but definitely not junk.

Why over priced ? I see Omega as in par with Rolex or even better so how come most Omega are cheaper than Rolex but still over priced?!
