I have been looking around and have spotted a few interesting ads for speedmasters recently.
I thought I would post them for all to see and discuss.

    First up: BA145.022

Then I found this ebay 145.022 that made me laugh a bit, I love the whole VERY RARE description

The price is kinda high I think considering the watch mainspring is claimed to be "broken but the watch runs and keeps good time".
Also there seems to be some contradictions in the listing of the story of where the watch came from.
Supposedly purchased from the estate of a retired US WWII veteran (in Australia??) Who bought it just before he enlisted in the 70's?? I though WWII ended in the 40's.

Not sure if either of these watches have been seen here.

Maybe just the angle but the dial looks odd on the Apollo XI.

Very collectible BA 145.022-69, only made around 1030 of them. First ones given to all current astronauts at a special dinner to celebrate the moon landing. Very expensive to buy now. First gold speedy and only one until the 80s.

Oh yeah I know there are two versions lets say, the 20 or so that went to the astronauts and the one nixon refused.
Then the rest that sold to the public.
I wish I had 29.5k to splash on this although converted to USD$ its only $22,635.07 bargain! :p

Other dubious issues with the listing aside, a watch can run well and keep good time even with a broken mainspring. It depends on where the spring has broken if it stops right away or not. I've seen some watches with the spring broken right out at the bridle that kept great time and nearly had a full power reserve. If it breaks in at the arbor though, it will stop and not run at all...

I learned something today. I had no idea a watch could still work with broken components.

Haha yeah, although as you mentioned I think this area is a bit high end. I'm from Melbourne so just guessing.
