Was advising my brother on a potential watch purchase tonight. He's wearing the Explorer 14270 he bought in 1995 and was curious about options. I said, "Dude, lots of options."

The grass is always greener. I regret selling my 14270, far superior to the 39mm IMO.

edit: Funny minute hand lume on the watch at right. Green, while the rest of the watch is blue. Yet another Omega QC issue? 😵‍💫

Right?! Purposeful, I think. Pretty sure the idea was to synch the color of the bezel pip to the minutes hand. You know, for those midnight dives.....

That makes sense, I've seen that in other watches now that you mention it.

Feature, not a flaw.

Nice to see you posting, Myron. I guess the chilly weather brought you back inside.

I have a Seiko with some bangin’ lume I will sacrifice to your brother in trade for his 5 digit Explorer with that crappy lume.

It would be great if the luxury brands stepped up their lume game. I have a 200 dollar Seiko that kicks the sh!t out of every watch I've ever owned, lume wise.

Seiko is on another level with lume. Many of the microbrands these days have been using c3 which is pretty outstanding.

A smiths I recently sold after a few indoors coming from outside.

The most amazing lume I ever saw was on a Stocker and Yale 490. When it was new... you could seriously use it as a flashlight.

Miss that watch. Couldd't find a source for new tubes.

The man who relumed this for me appears to have passed. 🙁

Reminds me of my grandfather's clock I had in the 70s.

The Modern Seikos I’ve had are outstanding in Lume color and brightness

Omega 2tone green and blue is great tho

I don't have any input other than to say I love that Seamaster with the sword hands!

I actually wonder if the higher-end luxury brands (Omega, Rolex) purposefully don't make their lume as bright as possible to keep it a little more discrete. Super bright lume might feel cheap to an average consumer; bright enough to read the time in a movie theater or dark cab, but not so bright it makes people think you're wearing a Timex.
