So I was recently reminded that I'm not as good at adjusting endpieces as I think I am. After a while, as many of us have learned the hard way, it becomes mangled and there ain't nothin' in the world make 'em right again. I swallow my pride and buy a new set from Otto Frei, and they arrived today. No kidding? They are wide enough that I need to file them thinner to fit between the lugs of my 165.0324 Seamaster 300. Who knew? Tom
Can any watchmaker handle the filing job? I've got a 7912 (I think) with newer 617 ends that, while they fit between 19mm lugs, don't quite fit between the spring bars and the case on either my 2913 or my 135.004. Haven't tried it on the 105.003 yet but I've been thinking about trying to get the "curves" ground down a tiny bit so it'll fit.
Filing 617's isn't too hard. To make them fit the 7912, you actually need to file the inside edges that fit to the bracelet. Just a tiny bit. Took me literally less than 10 mins. They fit 2998 /105.003 cases without any other mods, as far as I know.
I filed my own, but then I was taught how to use a file decades ago when I was young enough to apply apptitude to the task. Your watchmaker can adjust this for you and won't charge a lot. If you have any question at all about your ability to do it right, let the professional do it. I had lunch with a CM21 today, he told me I did a good job.
