recently i've seen some x33 skywalker bearing model # 318.90.45.79.01.002.
The particularity of those is that the case back is blank with no larkings and no omega hippocampus.
Anyone heard about that before ?
Cheers

I'll offer a little. The X33 with a blank case back is the first generation version, not typically called a Skywalker (which is gen 3).

The number you list ends in 2. Omega X33s end in 1.

You may be looking at a fake. Pictures would sure help.

Edit: Correction. All X33s have the Hippocampus on the back. G1s don't have any text.

Funny thing, in the "Is your X33 qualified or certified" thread, there is an example of one just as you describe. Its a first for me and some in the thread.

I don't know what to say now. The one in the link sure looks legit.

It looked so legit I bought one!

Here's the info I have -

First question I asked the seller was what warrantee it came under, and they said 5 year omega warrantee. The warrantee card came with a sticker bearing the jewelers name (not listed as an ad on the omega website) and the date of purchase. I have also purchased an Omega from an OB recently, and the cards are identical - sticker, printed serial and ref, sparkly omega symbols when viewed off-axis, apart from the x-33 not having a QR code on the back. Ref number ends in 002, serial matches the one on the sticker and engraved on the lug.

When I received the watch, the manual said that it was covered by a 2 year warrantee. This could indicate that the watch was produced pre 2018. I asked the seller again, who again confirmed the it was a 5 year warrantee from omega.

With regards to the functions of the watch, everything seems to work perfectly. MET, PET, timers, backlight all work as described, and the lume is so bright it can be seen outside on an overcast day. Out of curiosity, I even measured the alarm volume with a phone app, showing 72 dB (not as high as 80, but that probably has to do with how I hold the phone up to the watch more than anything else. Anecdotally it is f**king loud. )

The only issues I have are QC issues, such as the hands being slightly loose - attached are two pictures of the minutes hand in power saving/setting mode which differ slightly in position from gentle tapping with 1 finger. This occurs occasionally when the watch is in use, causing the minutes alignment to be more advanced than they should be.

Also the bezel is slightly loose and doesn't feel as rock solid as the diver I purchased from the OB. It's precise and perfectly aligned, it just doesn't feel "luxury" to use like the solid diver bezels.

My best guess is as a previous poster said on the qualified/certified thread - a separate model number sequence to account for plain caseback models produced for organizations who want to engrave their own logo on the back. How they wound up in Japan I have no idea.

I sent a communication through Omega's website to ask about the warrantee status. I do not mind the plain case back, but I would like to get these QC issues fixed under warrantee at the first battery change. Hopefully they can provide some official information.

Interesting.
Keep us posted when you know more.

I called the omega service center today (actually swatch) and it seems legit. I gave them the serial and they confirmed that the reference it's associated with is the 002. However they weren't able to give me any more info on what the ref is beyond "it's an Ana-digital speedy". So at least we know it's a legit x33 in their system!

Bumping this thread up, as I also recently bought one of these bare caseback X-33 Skywalkers in Japan. Good to know that it's a legit reference, and one that may potentially be rarer than a normal engraved caseback version!

Before tapping

After tapping

In power saving mode all hands should point to 12:00. From the manual...

energy saving mode

The energy saving mode is activated by pulling the crown out.
• the display disappears;
• the hands move to 12 o'clock;
• all the measurements in progress continue, but the chimes are deactivated.
Push the crown back in to exit energy saving mode.

synchronisation
If the watch is in energy saving mode, it is possible to synchronise the hands. If the hands do not display exactly 12:00:00, follow the procedure below:
• press P4 to move the hour and minute hands forward in half-minute intervals;
• press P3 to move the hour and minute hands forward in one-hour intervals;
• press P1 to move the seconds hand forward in one-second intervals.

I actually thought this was a way to align, but it doesn't work because my watch is about 1/8 minutes off instead of 1/2. So if I step the minutes hand in power saving mode, it will be at 5/8 instead of 1/8, which is still 1/8 offset from the nearest half minute.

This method is a sneaky way of getting in another time zone display though!
