I have this replacement crystal for the MKII which looks slightly different from the one that's currently on the watch.

I'd like to get some help in understanding whether the new crystal is correct before I go through the effort of replacing what's already on the watch.

Most Omega crystals will have the logo included on the crystal so you can check for that. you might need magnification to see it though.

Please explain "looks different".
Where did you get the crystal from?
Does it have packaging that shows a part number?

Most Omega crystals will have the logo included on the crystal so you can check for that. you might need magnification to see it though.

A MKII mineral crystal will not have an Ω marking.

Edit: Not sapphire, mineral crystal. 😉

MK II replacement crystals vary, what you have on your watch now may not match the replacement. That's just the way they are. They are a mineral crystal and pick up scratches easily and they can't effectively be buffed out, so almost all MK II watches have had their crystals replaced at one time or the other. And they are prone to breakage when removed. MK II crystals do not have the Omega etched or embedded in the crystal.

The OP's replacement crystal looks ok.

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it.

What I mean by different is:

• The font size and type in the word TACHYMETRE is diffferent. On the new crystal, it's short and wide.
• The font size is different in the tachy numbers. The numbers look taller and slightly wide on the new crystals.
• The tachy dash marks on the new crystal don't extend all the way to the inside of the crystal.
• The tachy dots between 500 and 140 are positioned differently relative to the tachy digits.
• There's a dash mark on the 140 that's not present on the old crystal.

I purchased the crystal from tmwatchco on eBay.

I hope this adds a bit more detail.

Great, how about the width of the black bezel ring? Is the width of the black ring on the underside of the crystal wider on the service crystal, which means it's harder to see the T SWISS MADE T?

You have a good eye for detail.
You may have an original crystal on the watch ATM, or you may have a service replacement.

Like watch dials/hands etc, genuine Omega service replacements are not always identical in form to the original, but fit and function are.
Service crystals are manufactured to a specification, and that may not go into fine detail so different batches may show variations.
The one from TMWATCHCO looks completely correct to me.

Its good to know I can proceed.

I have realized that the advert Raskolnikov posted has that lovely typeface in the 4 of 140 and the 2s which means that it's quite likely that the crystals I have are replacements . Details but I'll be satisfied with what I have.

Raskolnikov, I'll measure/eyeball and get back to you about the thickness of the tachy.

Tmwatchco used to list a sapphire MKII crystal, pretty sure Omega never made one.
