Mismatch warranty card / serial number

Hi folks!

I would like to buy a watch (Omega speed master broad arrow 60th anniversary) but the warranty card number doesn’t match the serial on the watch.

The seller said:

“There is an Omega warranty card, but from another unit of the same model. Either Omega sent them incorrectly and mixed up two units, or it was the distributor who mixed up the cards. There is a purchase invoice from a professional reseller, with the correct serial number that corresponds to this unit. And the professional's warranty."

The watch is full set, including the wrong warranty card. The private seller seems trustworthy.

How much of an issue is this? I don’t think there is any warranty on the watch anymore. Is there a way to fix this? What further questions should I ask the seller? Is there anything I can verify with the serial numbers? (don’t have them)

Thanks for the insight.
Lucas

Isn't the warranty for 5 years? I guess the warranty card is now worthless and you will have to pay for the service anyway, once the watch needs it. Is the mismatch an issue? Not if the rest is ok, the watch being genuine and you intend to keep it. If not, look elsewhere IMO.

Yes I intend to keep it. I think this mismatch is somewhat reflected in the price. I just want to ensure this is not a complete showstopper or red flag. I have no experience with recent watches, only vintage.

The watch should be genuine. I haven’t seen any fakes on these, and it comes full set, exactly as it would have been delivered when new.

As for modern watches, the warranty applies for 5 years since the initial date of purchase. After that, you have to pay for a standard full service (~900 CHF) at Omega service center even if you have the matching warranty card. In your case, I would consider the card as if it is missing. Being a limited edition, this would bother me personally, but it is your judgement.

As a tip, compare the serial number on the case and movement. If it is a Metas watch, request to download the certificate yourself, the seller will have to give you two numbers so you can access the results on your own. If everything matches, then I would buy the watch.

Is it very much cheaper than the one offered in the private sales here?
It’s about 15% cheaper, around 5k€.

Good enough of a price to not worry about the mismatched warranty card imo.

Sorry for the ignorance, but where do you check? In an Omega boutique directly?

Yes, although they’ve been on a free fall lately it seems!

As for the comparison, you can do it yourself 😀 just request hi-res pictures showing the numbers on the case (bottom of one lug) and movement.

The speedmaster trilogy is not metas certified so not an option here.
Sorry, I missed that, thanks for the intervention.

Ok, thanks for all the input.

I will ask the seller for more details on the numbers on the watch/warranty card and movement, if possible.

The Trilogy Speedmaster has a polished solid back, so unless the buyer wants the seller to open the watch back it may not be so easy.

So… it turns out that the whole full set (pictogram card, warranty card, and white booklet) belong to the same reference, but another serial (78779xxx) and limited number (31xx)

See below a pic of the cards - I have hidden some numbers but they all match together.

There is no date, and no retailer. What can that mean? Could this have been an exhibition watch or something, which was later put back together?

Basically the watch was swapped or added to this partial set. The serial on the lug is slightly lower than the set (78770xxx), and the limited number is also slightly lower (still 31xx).

Pics of the watch…

I haven’t seen any bracelets in such plastic wrap in any unboxing video (they all came fitted with the bracelet already).

Appreciate any further feedback!!

The plastic wrap is still on mine, so nothing to worry about.

It all comes done to how much you value a limited edition with mismatched papers.

Would you still think the price is ok, knowing that the entire set, not just the warranty card, is from another watch?

I am still not quite sure as to whether I would regret purchasing this - haven’t really made up my mind!
