Long time lurker first time poster here. Came across a like new Constellation this week and after asking dozens of questions and getting the seller to remove the back discovered it was a 2887 1 SC with a 1517xxxx serial to date it to 1956. Seller had full 100% feedback 500+ and was fantastic at answering all questions in short order so I went for it. Didn’t find much out there about this model except the article on Desmond’s blog and a couple that had come up on here. It will arrive tomorrow. Back story is the original owner bought 2 back in the 50’s. One for daily use and this one. It apparently just sat in a drawer for 50 years and donated its original band when it’s twins band wore out. The guy I bought it from said he only wore it once and from the pictures I believe him. He bought both and already sold the other but they were identical watches. Stainless and gold cap with arrow markers, one that I had been searching for! Wanted to share another example of a 2887 to help add more examples to the known samples.
Found it on eBay. Followed the condition, condition, condition and overpay for excellence mantra. Thanks MSNWatch Plus the seller was a great guy. When he said he had competing offers (I believe him because he couldn’t post the pics of the internals due to the pending offers) only a couple hours into the auction I had to pounce!
Here on the West Coast, I'm just finishing my first cup of coffee. And pissed off I didn't buy APPL yesterday.
Congratulations. That is a beautiful watch. Thanks for the excellent reference photos. Oh, and...dibs.
