Did anyone else ‘pre-order’ one? First time I looked, it was just ‘notify me’ or something, now ‘add to bag’ is possible, so I did ... still looks like it won’t arrive until late Aug/Sep, so I hope there’s some summer left by then! I always liked the look of the original. Hopefully this captures that vibe, with the added benefit of beach/pool possibilities. Seems like good value as far as it’s possible to tell...

I did. Really loving the summer vibe to this watch, and very much looking forward to receiving it sometime in August hopefully. Still hot enough where I live to consider it summer! Wish it was 38mm-39mm with no crown guards and no-date, but still thrilled with the release. Mido did an exceptional job recreating this Ocean Star.

Looks really cool, but does anyone think legibility might be an issue? The hour hand is so much shorter than the minute hand, and the hour numerals are so close to the center of the dial.

The watch looks interesting, wish it came with no date. These vintage revivals are heading into full gear.

I bought a regular Ocean Star titanium watch a few weeks ago and if this is half as good as that I think you'll all be pretty happy :)

Not sure this particular one speaks to me 100%, it's truly wonderful but I think I'd have preferred it with a steel bezel. I'll definitely be buying more Midos in the future though!

I am so grateful that companies keep stumbling right before the finish line with vintage reissues. It has saved me a boat load of money that they keep getting essential details wrong.

Yep, for sure! I think this one may have also been a choice to differentiate it a bit from the original, but I think it holds back the summery look too much.

The regular Ocean Star Tribute though.... ::love::

I’m actually excited by this watch- I love the original and will never be able to afford one, so it’s about as close as I will be able to get (and nothing else looks close to it). I agree that if they had done a 1:1 to the original, they would have hit gold, even up to 38mm with a silver bezel. But at 40.5x13.5mm it should wear similarly to a vintage sub or GMT and that large black second track will aid in it wearing smaller.
I’m not gonna run out and drop $1.3k on one, but I’m sure a few used ones will pop up in a few months when the summer fashion seekers go back to their black subs.

I may be in the minority, but I'm glad it's not a steel bezel. Was never a fan of them on divers because I prefer a contrast to the steel casing. If only it was the original size in 38mm...

Yeah, I don’t mind it in black and actually it’s a nice looking bezel and seems different than the “sub” style we see so much of. And 40.5 is not a bad inflation- they could have done 44!

These Midos wear small, I think the 40.5 won't feel all that big. My Ocean Star is 42.5mm, but it's so well proportioned it feels like 40

Ok, I’m sold. Dibs on whomever gets one then wants to sell their lightly used Rainbow.

Shoot. It was available a few hours ago, and now it seems to have been waitlisted.

Did they actually sell through 1961 pre-orders?! If this hadn’t been promoted by H’dinky, Mido would probably be offering a free pocket calculator to anyone who would even know about it.
Wagers on how many will pop up on Chrono24 within 4 hours of delivery for twice MSRP as a “Hondinkee LE”.

Yeah, I looked on their shop after you said you had dibs on a lightly used one, and figured you said that because you saw it was sold out.

I don’t think the ‘Donk had all 1961 allocations though... Some retailers around the world were capable of getting a few, ex: Worn And Wound down under sold a few from their shop what I recall.

Once August/September rolls around, I’m assuming we’ll start seeing a few show up on eBay and Chrono24 for ridiculous markups. $3,000.00 is not out of the realm of asking prices for lowlife flippers.

My hope is that they deliver the 1961 LE’s and roll out a standard model shortly thereafter. It would be foolish for them to not capitalize on the apparent success of this model. Anyone have an inside track that would know if they do intend to do so?

I doubt Hodinkee had that many in their allocation. 250 maybe?

I think there'll be plenty of these available at MSRP over the next year or so that they're being produced. I do agree that that probably won't stop lowlife flippers from trying to sell for 2x MSRP or more in the short term though - whether anybody buys at that level, is a whole other question entirely.

Then we need to stop taking about this watch so they only sell 255, then the rest can go to Jomashop for $499 + 10% holiday coupon and a free $2 watch roll....maybe they’ll throw in a free toaster. ;)
