In my constant search for random watches, I came across an old Memosail that appeared to have a tropical dial...seeing my last tropical gamble paid off, I said what the hell.

    This is what I bought...

And this is what is arrived...

It is really hard to photograph the way this dial changes color...in sunlight it is much darker, and in fluorescent light is a light copper color.

Not to mention the complication is cool as hell.

Needs a new pusher, but not too worried about it.

Is there a possibility it was originally brown?

Given it's from the early 70's.

No, there were a couple of dial color combos and brown was not one of them to my knowledge. Also, if you look closely, you will see where the orig paint degraded.

That is what makes tropical fun.

Thanks, that is a great site, and I used it to research the watch. It looks to me that the gold dial example is really a tropical dial that was once blue or black...the sweep and triangle appear to be extremely faded. Who knows, not a lot of literature on these oddballs.

I have not seen any other examples with a gold dial, but I did find this beauty with similar attributes to the one featured on the site...clearly tropical.

That is a gold one originally

As said above black, blue and gold...

Gold had white arrow and orange hand
    Later model case..

Most have tropical dials as in the day these were mostly used by yachties and got there fair share of sun...

Can you share another gold dial example? I would love to see one, as I have not been able to see any others than the one on the site.

That dial looks degraded, the sweep and 12 o'clock marker look heavily faded.

That is Mark's watch, featured on Rich's blog...it is one in the same.

Still would love to see another example of a gold dialed Memosail...
