Magnetized 1037 beads of rice bracelet

I purchased a 1037 bracelet for my 1961 Seamaster and I noticed that it magnetizes at a drop of a hat. Wearing it while typing on my MacBook, magnetized! Go near my stereo speakers, magnetized!

I have a few questions, is this normal? I thought that these bracelets were made with non-magnetic SS? Did I get a fake or were these made back then with SS that magnetizes?

I can't really tell if the magnetized bracelet is having an impact on the accuracy of the watch. But it's kind of a pain to constantly having to de-mag the thing...should I just leave it magnetized if I can't notice that it affects the accuracy?

Fascinating. What makes you know that it is magnetized? It feels different? paperclips stick to it?

The old wave it in front of a compass trick.

📖 Um, any piece of metal Magnetised Or Not in front of a compass will make the hand move........

Metal - do not store your compass next to anything metal especially ferrous metal (iron).

Metals containing iron can easy deflect your compass needle and you can see this happening yourself by moving you compass near to a metal object. The needle will deflect away from Magnetic North and move towards the object instead. This effect is something to be wary of not only when storing your compass but when using it as well.

Keeping your compass in close proximity to ferrous metals for a prolonged period of time will eventually demagnetise the needle completely rendering your compass useless as navigational tool.

I don't think so. In any case, after de-mag, it won't. Until I get near a magnetic source....

I had visions of paper clips and loose staples flying across your desk and sticking your your bracelet. The compass thing is not as much fun to visualize.

Can we have a picture of the bracelet, face up and down?

mechanical compasses will always be affected by ferrous material, electricity and electronics in close proximity....why should never use in vehicle, under power lines and why there are marks on 1:50 and orienteering charts that note where you have to add or subtract degrees of declination usually from iron deposits in earth. Compass is poor test for magnetization.....

Beautiful watch though.....congrats.
