Is it ok to take macro shots of your watch with a modern iPhone. Assuming movements are not master chronometer e.g. 1861 etc.

Thoughts, experience etc will be a useful insight.

thanks

Who’s going to tell you off?

Do you mean will it harm the watch having a phone close to it?

Yes. For example. Phone needs can focus as close as a few cms from the object. I’m thinking magnetism concerns?

My educated guess is it’s fine. I wear vintage watches while working on my laptop or holding a phone day in day out and never had an issue with magnetism.

1861 isn’t master chronometer btw.

I have yet to experience an issue with it. Taken with my iPhone 14pro

Take with my iPhone 12pro

I don’t know, Aaron. Those watches look like they are running fast.

Every now and then I place the phone next to the tray of parts. Could be why I sometime find random parts when sweeping the floor. I also find the parts to be a bit magnetic.

On the other hand the phone case can be used for finding parts. One just has to remember to run them through the demagnitizer.

The worse thing is when the tweezers stick to the phone case. Ironic that the third party cases are designed to work like a flip phone.

(and here I was hoping someone would suggest what clip on corrective optics to use for adjusting the depth of field. I have on the other hand been prefering the iPhone to the canon EOS. Mostly because I do not have a good macro lens with a 7CM focal distance that will fill the whole frame.)

Shoooot. I was really hoping that would not come across on camera.

But it's more fun to break out the tripod and zoom lens and mess with camera settings. 😁

Wow. I just learned something I did not know before. One can zoom the camera with a pinch gesture.

Up till now I have not been able to get the iPhone 10x or what ever lemon this is to focus more than about 10 or 12 CM. I was playing with holding it closer then doing the stretch thing to see If I could force a focus and the whole imaged zoomed in. I was actually able to get the thing around 3 or 4 CM. Still a lot of lens distortion, but better than doing the zoom in iPhotos.

Amazing every bit of dust shows. Even the scratch on the hessalite can be seen. With slightly more effort (and using the copy stand. I could probably get the rusted Heuer hands better focued on that tiny tiny ladies watch.

Wonder what other iPhone features I have ignored

Don’t do that. Your phone isn’t made for that kind of abuse.
