I am looking to purchase an older speed master 3520.50 mark 40. Interestingly, some that are from the early 2000’s already have patina’d indexes but the hands don’t look as old. I guess different lume but should the lume have turned tropical already? Want to know what I am buying.

Speedmasters from the 2000s would have luminova dials, and they wouldn't have yellowed. You may be looking at watches from the 1990s with tritium dials and replacement hands. As @Sherbie noted, it's pointless to speculate about hypothetical watches.
