Evening all

Not my usual fare but I saw a friend this week (a chance to give my car a damn good run over the peaks) we spent nearly two hours talking watches like a pair of school kids in the playground trading football cards (he had a lot more cards that I wanted than I would like to admit)

I spent much of my time trying to convince him to part with his extremely rare 26.5 oversize for a pittance but he wasn't biting (so selfish). We both came away happy and with some new watches, this one I wasn't expecting to get but managed to pick up something else really quite special.

This beauty caught my eye and I could resist, its a awesome piece and in such remarkable condition, the pics don't do the dial justice, don't see many really nice unmolested 30T2's and not many with such a lovely dial

Its a lovely size at 35mm (not the 37mm sadly but then not the same insane price tag as a 37mm)

The 8million movement is an absolute beauty

But that dial just 'does it for me' and it's such a pleasure to wear

Nice catch. All the nice unmolested examples are with the European black hole @mac_omega

Beautiful watch! I really like the design of the Arabic numerals on this watch dial.
You always post interesting and unusual watches here. Thanks!

Thanks both

Yep @mac_omega has some wonderful pieces and is a top forum member.

Thanks Greg, my preference (much to the scoff of most of the forum) is the 1970's quartz Omegas but I do love some of the other range too. I don't have the biggest collection in the world but I got it all out the other day and was surprised that I had 12 Quartz Omegas and 18 mechcnial, I hadn't realised I had accrued so many mechanical watches. This one is a nice addition to the collection after parting with my 18K pie pan and will make a lovely watch to wear with a suit or at work

I really enjoy your posts with 70s Quartz omegas! I'm drawn to the 60s era for waring, but your posts (and others here) have really piqued an interest in learning more about these watches. Thanks for posting them!

The polar opposite Bill

But for me equally as amazing, a 53 'Thin Arrow' in totally original condition, these are getting really quite rare and considering the price of a FAP Railmaster the 53 is an absolute bargain, considering they share basically the same properties and the 53 was very much the test bed for the production RM

Cheers Tom

Totally agree - have been waiting for the price of the TAs to push upwards for many years now...😀

Oohh, while busy doing a bit of reading on the '53, I came across a very in depth write-up about a certain white dial Railmaster... What a beauty it is! I wonder if the owner still has it???

Hi
I let it go a while ago... but it is safe in another Omega man collection.

I still have an original thin arrow 53 , Hay VanDamme here is another one for you .. I was the guy that called the RAF 53 with an original dial the "thin arrow" if that means anything to anyone.

At least it is immortalised in AJTT with your name under it...

Pictures or it didn't happen😁

It kinda does mean something doesn't it. I can't claim to have named any yet that have stuck.

Hi
Keep looking in AJTT there is another timepiece from my collection in the book!!

Keep in mind all the examples that everyone came across were MoD redialed "FAT Arrow" in the mid 90's I saw one that was at the Museum said it had a cal 281 ( 30T2SCrg , added after it left factory ) . Was emailing Ziggy in UK about them. He did not know what I meant and sent him the one I bought from original owner and told him it was a Thin arrow , he then almost yelled in email ( all caps ) that everyone he has seen was a redial ! and I replied yup !

Go Figure !

Good Hunting

Great story Bill. Thank you for sharing!

I have a Cal 283 but it's nowhere near as cool or valuable as the '53. Suppose they do say that most of the value of a watch is in the dial.

Value is in the eye of the beholder, any cal 283 is an awesome watch
