·This is a very long shot, but you never know your luck!
Back in 1970, my father was given an Omega Seamaster by his employer in recognition of twenty years’ service, very similar to the one in the photo below, but automatic, with date and sweep second hand.
He wore it for a few years, but then decided he preferred a watch with numbers (there’s no accounting for taste!) so it was consigned to a bedside drawer.
After he passed away in 2003 it passed to me, to my delight, and I wore it happily for six months or so, but then one day I came home from a shopping trip to Plymouth and realised it had disappeared from my arm. I had noticed that one of the spring bars was a little suspect, but stupidly I hadn’t done anything about it. I retraced my steps around town but to no avail, and I’ve never seen it since.
Before it disappeared I did take it to the local Omega agent to find out about servicing costs. They valued it then at around £400 on 2003 prices.
The one thing it had to distinguish it was an inscription on the back which read “To PBW from FTL”, followed by, I think, “1950 - 1970” or possibly “20 years”. My memory isn’t what it used to be…
