I decided about a month ago that I wanted to purchase a new SMPO, AT, and Speedy this year. I bought the SMPO 8500 last week and I love it, but I want to purchase a Speedy now and an AT this summer or fall. Any thoughts on going with the DSOTM over a traditional Speedy? I'm thinking new for now and then my collection will evolve into vintage Speedy's as I get older.

the dsom is a nice looking watch. it's a bit bigger than the moonwatch, but the colours are striking.

personally, I have found that I don't bond well with modern speedies. it's tough because you won't know until you try, but for me, vintage all the way.

if you're into modern, maybe a traditional moonwatch ref 311.30.42.30.01.006 to start? they're a lot cheaper and will give you a good taste of speedmaster.

 

I'd get the vintage now as prices are only going to go up, the DSOTM will be readily available for years to come.

Personally I'm not bothered about the DSOTM, it's not got enough moon watch DNA for me.
