166.020 Seamaster De Ville, the question I have is, all the other models of this watch case I can find seem to measure 34mm and this one is at 32.5. Same thing with the lug measurement, I’ve found all others to be 40mm and this is at 38.5. Is this common for an older watch case to happen over time or is this a clear sign that things are not original? I apologize for the newb question but I’m curious as to why is might be a shorter length. Any replies are greatly appreciated, thanks!

Hi,

obviously you are not familiar with calipers and how to read them...
The meassures are correct for this reference.
You have to read at the 0 point!

Hahaha I feel like a complete idiot and should have seen this from a mile away. Obviously you are correct and I have zero experience with calipers. I appreciate your reply and feel more comfortable with the purchase. Thank you again for the reply!

Seller also states this watch loses 3 minutes every day, I’m hoping this is a relatively easy fix when I get it serviced. I’ve read it can be numerous things so I’m hoping $425 is a reasonable price, I’ve loved omega seamasters for quite a while and hope this is a good entry watch for me.

The seller’s filthy hands holding the movement is painful to look at. I’d be curious how securely (or not) he packages the watch for shipping

Ya it’s pretty painful to look at, he has good reviews as a seller with over 1200 reviews so I’m hoping it will be a smooth transaction. I will be giving it a good cleaning myself as soon as it gets here

Nothing at all wrong with having dirty hands from working, but gloves or finger cots should be worn when handling a movement unless it’s just about to have a service.

Are you sure the crown is original? It does look off to me compared to other 166.020 references

I’ve seen multiple different 166.020 models up for sale on “legitimate” websites that all claim that everything is original. Either way, for $425 it’s kind of the last thing I’m worried about.

To be fair, it's a little confusing. Mine has a battery so I've never noticed this before either!

I've had a few of these, I have measured them at 33.5 mm

The seller in that first photo was banned from this site ages ago for selling dodgy watches, chrono24 is a legitimate marketplace but they don’t vet originality of all parts on a vintage watch as that isn’t their department.

Ahhh gotcha! Thank you for the info, I guess I just assumed a website like that wouldn’t allow false descriptive items to be sold on their website. Also, I just grabbed the first three photos I saw of 166.020s, what a coincidence that guy was banned from this site!

The winding crown is effectively a consumable. More modern service crowns, often do not mimic the original crowns and this is the case with the DeVille. Many are seen with the type of crowns you’ve posted, they are correct service items but they are not the ones originally used on the reference.

Often the differences between the factory original and factory service crowns are minor but in some cases, such as the DeVille, they are significant and impact of overall look of the watch.
