What are they? What are they for?
Jam doughnuts? We eat those at channukah in December.

Polish thing for lent, not that I observe/believe in any of that stuff. They are just tasty....

These are filled with Bavarian cream custard, but the traditional type are filled with prune paste/jelly - quite good but this is all they had aside from Raspberry, and I hate Raspberries!

Ah yes, Ash Wednesday, Mardi Gras, Carnival, etc. Didn't know about that Polish tradition, but I could very quickly embrace that! What can I say...we Canucks do like our doughnuts, and any excuse works!!

Krispy Kreme opened near home, daughters occasionally bring home a box or two and admit to enjoying some of the offerings :)

Had one after spending the afternoon at the bench...along with a nice cappuccino. Very tasty!

I know that if you are in Detroit you would have no trouble at all finding them, but I've never been to Chicago at this time of year...

Now off to pan fry the pork schnitzel for dinner...healthy diet today. LOL!

Better to read the Wiki link I posted than question me about it mate...I am about as far away from being an expert on this sort of thing as you could possibly get. :)

Paczki - the breakfast of champions! Well at least this morning it was...

In Poland, pączki are eaten especially on Fat Thursday (Tłusty Czwartek), the last Thursday prior to Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent. The traditional reason for making paczki was to use up all the lard, sugar, eggs and fruit in the house, because their consumption was forbidden by Catholic fasting practices during Lent.

I've never noticed these before, but found them at Remark this weekend and had to try them based on your post. They were very good.
