What will be the suggestion if the word "beater" was to be removed from the subject ::stirthepot::

Probably better to start a new thread on the 'perfect watch', although bear in mind (to quote Arsene Wenger) “Everyone thinks their wife is the prettiest”.

BTW are smart/fitness watches are a No - No for you all ( no one ever talks about them) 😀 ?
I consider my Garmin Fenix 3HR a perfect beater .. though huge on my wrist but I love it..

Another alternative would be a watch that already has a few battle scars and owes you next to nothing - try your local pawn shops for instance. My old Seiko diver falls into that category these days - I have zero cares if it lives or dies: No F***ks Given!

I have a Tag professional (quartz) that I wear as a beater. Hasn't seen much wrist time lately. Looks great on this BR style strap. Was thinking of selling it...

I have the exact same watch for my daily beater. Paid $125 for it not running. Paid my local watchmaker $225 for a full service and Battery. Has not failed me in 2 oceans and over 2 yrs now. A little bit of a dated look but you cannot beat the dependability in my opinion.

This is really out of left field, but I know someone who wears the Pre-Bond Seamaster as a beater. It is not mechanical, and he said it took a while to find one for cheap, but I think they are still out there for a little over 400 USD. The question is if you could get it waterproof (I would say it is probably possible). And since no thread is complete without a photo, here @dennisthemenace's one (The first nice photo on google images)
I think you might find that that one is mechanical.

Methinks @Lucasssssss meant to say "not manual" because as you correctly point out, it's definitely mechanical.😀
I think he meant to say quartz

I pulled the wrong image from the thread, clearly the one I linked had automatic on the dial 🤦. It was more of an illustration of the watch than the exact reference I was suggesting. I don't believe that the automatics are available for $400, or I would have suggested one of those.

Another vote for the SKX here. Super durable and classic.

Can't get around a Seiko. I have a SKX013 for the last 6 months, slowly breaking it in.
Before that there was this Seiko. They start looking like that after 14 years on building sites. Never missed a beat. And I still wear it to work when I want a change from the smaller SKX013.

Got to be Seiko SKX for me , its the hob nob of beater watches . And can be easily modded, to suit your taste or style very cheaply .

I think the seiko and citizen divers will be hard to beat!

I own an SKX013 and i would actually recommend against it, it feels way too small even on my skinny wrists! Go for the full size!

Wow, that is a real beater watch!
