Hi. I’m trying to find out some information on my grandfather’s watch that was recently stolen for the police report. I’m attaching pictures. If anyone on here might have any information on the model number and fair dollar value I would appreciate it. My father bought it for him in Switzerland or Germany in 1953 I believe. I’m gutted that it was stolen. Thank so much.

Welcome @hooligan911
Sorry to hear you’ve lost such a lovely watch.

You had a solid gold early Constellation in nice condition.

I’ll page @MtV and @cristos71 as they should be able to help you fill in the blanks accurately.

If it has been serviced in the past some info might be available from the service receipt such as serial numbers model number etc.

The reference (aka model number) is 2782, caliber 354, a Constellation that was introduced in 1954. Previous models that were available in 1953 look slightly different (2648 didn't have WATERPROOF on the case back and a different crown/dimensions, a 2652 had a screw-in case back).

It's either 14k or 18k, let's assume the latter. You might find another one for ~2.5k-3kUSD on the open market. However, as dealers sell those for significantly more and insurance values are usually higher, too, I'd suggest a number in the ballpark of 4k USD for your purpose. If you sit down with just a bit of time and google "Omega 2782" I'm sure you'll find old dealer listings (or even past listings on ebay) that you can use as a reference.

Sorry for your loss; this is a lovely watch indeed.

Thanks @MtV
To add to the description @hooligan911 you might add
“Cross-hair dome dial with contrasting silvered outer ring, gold furniture including arrowhead indices”

Thank you so much for the information. I really appreciate it. Im feeling really sad that it was lost mostly for sentimental reasons at this point since my dad bought it for him (my dad passed away a few years ago).

Sorry to bother you again and really thank you so much for the information but you wouldn’t also happen to know anything about Rolex’s or Vulcains as well would you? They took all the watches that I had taken out of the safe as I was trying to decide which I wanted to wear. Picture of the Rolex attached. The Vulcain was my husband’s grandfathers. It was a cricket with a raised image of a ship on the back but I didn’t take a picture of that one. I only had the pictures because I had sent them to my son’s friend who was interested in watches 😞

Regarding the Rolex:

I was able to find a watch that sold within the last few months:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/256733441395

The dial on the OP's has been redone, otherwise the condition is similar. Not sure there would be a huge difference in value here.

Is that case plated? That’s weird.

No. Gold capped, like Omega and UG Polerouters.

I have one like it. Here is Rolex ad.
