Looking for information about a Reduced Speedmaster

    Hello,

I have run across this reduced speedmaster at a local boutique shop. It's obviously pretty beautiful and a holy grail watch for a lot of people, but I'm not going to pretend to be a master, especially when I'm putting a fair amount of cash on the line. I have posted pictures below. They have it marked as $3950, which is pretty nuts, I'd obviously want to talk them down to less than half that given what I see on ebay (and the fact that I'm pretty sure there isn't any paperwork). Serial number on the back is 5718260 and the number on the strap is 611.

What are your thoughts? How do you think it looks? What do you think it should go for? Any more questions I can ask?

    As a lurker, and never a poster, thanks for the help! IMG_20161008_160343397.jpg IMG_20161008_160344395.jpg IMG_20161008_160348469.jpg IMG_20161008_160353010.jpg IMG_20161008_160359224.jpg IMG_20161008_160416853.jpg IMG_20161008_160418069.jpg

    Price is very high.

As you looked at eBay prices, they have that in the price range of the professional.

What are your concerns on the watch?

I guess that I'm not experienced enough with watches to know what I don't know. Wanted to run it by people who know their stuff, especially since the price is obviously much higher than I've seen for a reduced. Glad to hear I'm not crazy and this isn't something rarer than I think it is.

Grail for some? I think you are rather talking this up, these aren't rare: acrylic crystal Reduced model with troublesome compound movement. With no B&P, if fully working which is by no means guaranteed with these, I would want that for £1000/$1300 max.

They have it priced as a Pro, these are worth roughly half as much or less. They have either made a mistake or are trying to deceive and taking the customer for a ride.

You can have it for a third of what they are asking

Move on. There's no way a boutique would go half their asking, unless they made a mistake in identifying the watch. And if that's what happened, I'd stay away....

You would be paying over the odds at half the sticker price to be honest. At $2000 I would want box, papers, proof of a recent service and a long warranty. When these go wrong they can be awkward to fix and many independents wont touch them, meaning an expensive official service is the only answer. Not a nice situation when the service cost can be $650

As everyone above has said, these are so plentiful, and so much cheaper than the dealer has this one up for, you'd be a bit nuts to hand them your money.

If you fancy one of the smaller automatic Speedmasters (reduced, date, or day/date aka mk40), you're really spoilt for choice.

As of now there are near mint examples on eBay in the £1250-£1650 bracket... including some of the "rare" colour combinations.

You're in a position where the odds are in your favour, with huge supply, that's outstripping demand.

Take your time, find a good one. :)

I have no intention of offering my Speedmaster reduced for sale any time soon. But believe me, if and when I do, it won't be offered for anything nearly as low as $1,500.00 to $1,800.00! This is 18-karat rose gold on steel, steel Omega bracelet.
