Hi everyone,

I was hoping someone here might be able to give me more information about one of my watches than I've been able to find myself over the last several years.

Background: I bought this watch in 2016 not running from a guy liquidating an estate in New Jersey, and with no band. I paid $200 for it and spent another $200 getting it serviced and running. Added a generic brown strap to go with it so I could wear it.

What I do know: It's an approximately 1953 Seamaster with the 354 bumper movement. About all I've got. I've researched online at length, randomly over the years as I think about it, and haven't found another dial exactly like this one. I have no idea if it is rare, or if I just suck at Google.

I do have more pictures with a tighter zoom in areas, but I don't want to post a million pictures unless you need them!

I appreciate any additional info anybody can offer! I'm also interested in a value if anybody can go that far. I'm positive it's worth the $400 I have into it, but how much more is anybody's guess.

Looks totally legit to me. The reference number is 2577, from inside the case-back. There were tons of different dial configurations, you won't find everything on the internet.

I have seen legitimately black dialed versions of this reference if I recall correctly. I’m on the fence on this one but leaning towards genuine.

Entirely for comparison purposes but mine’s a 2577-4 with a non-chronometer cal 351 bumper movement from 1950. It has a slightly earlier movement number than yours.

Yours has the advantage of being both a chronometre and a stainless steel case in addition to having a sought after black dial and your movement looks very crisp.

With all those positives I’d reckon it’s probably in the region of £600-£1000 in today’s market.

Nice. Clean case and movement, but I think the dial is an old refinish

Based on the markers at 12, 6 and 9 are empty. No trace that any luminous was in them

Looks like an original gilt dial, lume can be cleanly removed and sometimes intentionally was. I see no issues with originality. When is the last time you've seen a refinished black gilt dial?
