Hi I have just purchased on ebay a restored vintage 1950 seamaster but after looking at your site and reading the following post

https://omegaforums.net/threads/i’m-new-to-this-any-alarm-bells-with-this-watch.145504/page-2#post-1985227

This post is showing the watch i bought as a restored and redialed watch from the 1950 and uses the the case number 2635-1 movement 351 bumper automatic.

So after reading the above post I have a few questions was the watch I have ever been a seamaster watch originally ie did the dial say seamaster as the back has no name or any markings on it or was it just a omega automatic and never was a seamaster watch or were early seamasters not marked on the dial as seamaster usng the 2635-1 case.

I know I paid to much for it but I need to find out if it was originally was a seamaster watch before the dial was restored and the hands replaced if anyone can send me a photograph of what a fully oriignal seamaster using this case from 1950 looks like thank you.

Here is the original ebay page for the watch that I have bought

If anyone can give me information on the above would be helpful please dont post any negative comments I know i made a mistake but need to know if i bought a an original seamaster watch before restoration if it was not a seamaster then I might be able to get a return so if can anyone help thank you for your time

Sorry to say but that dial is an abomination. Even if it was originally a seamaster the dial certainly never looked remotely like that.

I’d be returning that ASAP.

Thanks for the reply can anyone post what the dial should be like for a seamaster of 1950 production and case ref 2635-1 I know the hands are wrong but are the batons and arabic numurals correct for the watch case and bumper movement 351 calibre with movement number of 12194224 dating it to 1950 or is it a mock up of diffrent dial movement and case please if anyone can tell me the seller told me that the dial before being repainted was worn out and the original hands were mismatched so dial was refunished and new hands put on so was sold as a refurbished dial and fully servcied movement.

This seller sells a large number of these watches. It’s likely they buy cheap, crapped out watches with poor dials, possibly due to water ingress, then have them redialed and polished.

The applied arabic numerals and batons are likely original, but originally the dial was almost certainly Ivory/silver colour, and would not have had a crosshair. The text/font is also very poor and nothing like what would have been there originally.

I think these watches are absolute junk. The movement was likely toast so they’ve serviced it but it but I can almost guarantee it’s not in good condition. The case will have been heavily scratch so it’s been over polished to disguise this, and the dial is a poor quality, fantasy redial with little bearing on what the dial originally looked like.

@clockmaker there are many different dial variations, both with and without the Seamaster name. The earlier pieces, 1949 and maybe also in 1950, wont say "Seamaster" while later ones does. Since your movement is a cal. 351, a caliber that was in the early 50s updated to the 354, it's quite possible it would've only said "Omega Automatic" originally.

Google "Omega 2635". You'll find many pictures and get a good idea of the variations.

Early Seamasters (1948-54) were not always marked on the dial. We usually go by 2 things:

1. Does the case have an “O” ring to keep out moisture?

2. Does the Omega Database call the case reference “Seamaster”?

Your watch meets both criteria, so I would call it a Seamaster.

Thank you everyone for the replys I can only use this as a learning experience for buying a vintage watch it was listed as restored so I assumed that it was restored to the original condition ie the dial was as it was when new not customised with aspects of later dials and later hand types so thank you for everyones input so in future will do more reserch before i bid on a watch that says restored on ebay to be ure it has been restored to original specification or just buy future watches with original dial.

There really is no such thing as "no returns" on eBay which strongly tends to side with the buyer when there is a dispute about whether an item was honestly described by the seller. I would attempt to return it. You have nothing to lose.by trying.

We all have been there before.
I advise to stick around here and read this thread:
