Hi everyone. I'm looking for informed opinions /reviews on this A277. I'm a neophyte on Zeniths and found this watch which is potentially for sale. Please let me know if you think something looks incorrect. It's been pointed out that the central seconds hand may be off. Personally I don't like the color discrepancy between the hour lumes and the hands - green vs traditional golden. I've requested movement pictures already.. Thoughts?
Here are a couple of my thoughts: - Given that this appears to be a later A277, it should have a white paddle chrono sweep hand (similar to the red and blue ones found on El Primeros of the same era). - The bottom pusher appears to be slightly larger than the other. At least that one has been replaced. - The case has been polished quite a bit, but the original bevels are still mostly present. I've seen worse. It's really difficult to find these watches in collector-grade condition; most have been well worn over the years. All-in-all, it's a pretty typical example. A277's are appreciating pretty quickly These days, so it's definitely worth picking one up, for the right price.
I should have caught that incorrect pusher. Of course, as soon as you pointed it out, it was obvious. After finding, saving and reviewing a LOT of A277 and SSS pictures, the chrono hand, as you pointed out doesn't appear correct either. The search continues!
Fairly worn, with incorrect chrono hand as you pointed out. Tough decision, depends on the price I do suppose- because like others have said, this is a sleeper...
@Fred400- That's interesting. Can you point out what the differences are between an AH 027 and a A277? I can't find any mention of an 027 anywhere. @eddieskl - Yes,it all depends. He wants quite a lot. I'm inclined to "pass" on it as I've uncovered a couple more ;-)
What would be conclusive, is if they would provide something written attesting to it's existence. On another note- if it does exist, it JUST missed it's future being referred to as the "007" ;-)
After much searching, I've finally found my A277 and as luck would have it, it was already at a recognized watchmaker getting the spa treatment. My offer was excepted and it should be here within a couple weeks. Thanks to all those indulgent members I reached out to with n00b questions. Your patience was admirable! It's been a great learning experience as well. I'll post w pictures when it's in my impatiently twitching hands...
As luck would have it I ended up with 2! Ones on the way in from Abel C and this one has been with me for about 5 days. It's lovely with a very sharp case. Some Glamour shots I took today
Beauty...congrats. I do believe you made the right choice buying two The bracelet is a big plus for me too, not easy to find those end links.
Just wanted to point out that that watch is most certainly a redial. Beyond the fuzzy print, inconsistent font (note the mix of open- and closed-6s and 9s), and lack of "T" for Tritium, tri-compax chronographs don't have 45-minute registers as you wouldn't be able to properly read the subdials for the elapsed time. I'm sure it started out as an ordinary A277.
Update with the 2nd one which arrived from Abel's yesterday evening. It's beautiful as well but no bracelet.
